Karmawara is a small farm set on 45 hectares located approximately 15 km west of the town of Lawrence in the Clarence Valley Shire in the Northern Rivers area of NSW.

We have a variety of activities happening on the farm but mainly focus on our growing alpaca stud, our garlic and herbs.

Our small herd of Huacaya Alpaca originate from good solid genetic stock  and our goal is to continue to produce robust, fine fleeced animals with good sized frame. At this stage we produce animals to fit the growing demand for new breeding stock—and as this is predominantly a fleece industry, the aim is to develop a line of alpacas producing a thick, crimpy low micron fleece. However there is also a developing niche market for alpaca meat and hide products so producing larger framed animals will go towards development of this area too.

We also produce several varieties of garlic. As our region is consistently subtropical, we mainly grow varieties that suit our climate—such as Glen Large and the giant Russian variety however we have had good success with some colder climate Purple Stripe, California Late and Italian White.

Produce will be sold as seed and some at the markets and local produce shops.

We are also trialling strawberries, chillies and a variety of fresh herbs.

April 2012  -  Planting has begun. A little late this year due to poor weather and a sick tractor .. But all good. Paddocks looking good and garlic seed looking good.

May 2012  -  Planting almost complete. Purple garlic and Glenlarge have started to sprout above the mulch and our beautiful Russian garlic is almost all bedded in for the winter.
